The message behind Tenacious
Tenacious:
tending to keep a firm hold of something; clinging or adhering closely.
not readily relinquishing a position, principle, or course of action; determined.
persisting in existence; not easily dispelled.
What It means to be Tenacious:
Tenacious is a mostly positive term. If someone calls you tenacious you're probably the kind of person who never gives up and never stops trying – someone who does whatever is required to accomplish a goal.
Showing tenacity is courage, mettle, spirit, resolution.
Tenacity means mental or moral strength to resist opposition, danger, or hardship.
From Our CEO & Creative Director; ShanDionne, Founder of Tenacious
“Tenacious begun with music showcase events creating a social vibe for creatives to network in a different format. They could network in a comfortable and straight forward way, breaking the ice through games whilst enjoying live music. The shows highlighted specifically curated artists, while producers, engineers, A&R, photographers, videographers, vocal coaches, PR, digital artists, artist managers, potential fans of all ages etc were in the audience. The layout of the events was intended to be more relaxed, with games like Jenga, Tic Tac Toe, Connect 4 & more allowing creatives to connect socially while networking, instead of asking and answering the same tedious questions that come with building a network.
As an introverted extrovert who frequented open mics, showcases and networking events, I sometimes found it difficult to approach creatives to network, finding difficulty constantly approaching creatives.
I would attend many showcases with creatives that would be looking for artist to collaborate with & talented individuals to build up my network, yet it would feel awkward to find a conversation starter or daunting approaching someone on the other side of the room.
Fortunately since then I have grown my confidence, but it gave me the idea to create an easier way for artists/creatives like myself to come into contact with each other with the intention to collaborate in a more comfortable and social way.
It is extremely important to connect with whoever you’re working with before working together, so that you’re on the same page and work cohesively.
I created this environment to give the same atmosphere as a friends house party where it is more like meeting mutual friends rather than potential colleagues; so you make friends with aspiring, upcoming and established creatives first, while networking. This makes the networking aspect easier as you connect casually with likeminded individuals in a more social/casual aspect before speaking about business or feeling as if you have to constantly sell your brand and being judged on how you do so. From experience, I know how tiring it can be speaking to creatives who ask so many questions you may not know the answer to, which leaves you thinking on the spot and seeming less professional. I really dislike feeling like I have to prove myself through networking or feeling like i’m being interrogated. My aim is to cut that out of the networking process to create a less judgemental environment in the music industry. Not every creative has the ability to present as an ideal media trained artist from the get go but everybody deserves an equal opportunity to develop in that aspect.”
Since beginning in early 2019; Tenacious has grown into a collective, focusing on connecting creatives to whomever they need, hosting networking events, providing opportunities, and promoting creatives work.
Tenacious has always been vocal about mental health issues creatives face and mental health issues in society, especially because artistic creativity is an amazing vice that can help anyone overcome these setbacks whether as a career or just a hobby.
As a collective, we aspire to facilitate a safe space for artists to vent and be reminded they are human, no one is perfect & remain passionate about their love for art whist turning it into work that brings income.
We are also adamant that creatives learn more legalities, which can help them in the future as the music industry tends to gatekeeper a lot of information. Lack of Knowledge is the main way artists & creatives get overlooked, lose ownership, rights or potential income from their work.
Tenacious now also provides artists and creatives with a place to wind down, a place to be serious and business oriented, a space to learn and grow.
We liaison between artist & creative, creative & label & creative & consumer/fans to make life easier for creatives & also provide a larger network to allow them to maximise growth & sales.
